Last week it was our pleasure to host another meeting of the Toledo Web Professionals. Over 25 members of the local web development community joined us April 9 in the Hanson Treehouse for pizza and a presentation by our Director of Front-End Development, Dave Rodriguez, on “Front-End Development: IN SPAAAAAACE!”

A few weeks ago, I wrote a primer on the Internet of Things. Around the same time, I had the opportunity to attend the combined NKBA Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS) / NAHB International Builders’ Show (IBS) Feb. 4-6 in Las Vegas. One of my goals at the show was to seek out internet-connected products/appliances/fixtures for the home, and see if anything looks really promising. By promising, what I was really looking for was “open connectivity” across all sorts of devices for the home directly from the big manufacturers that exhibit at these shows.

There’s an old episode of The Simpsons where Homer, working from home, tries to call the nuclear plant to warn about a meltdown. Hanson clients were front and center at the Advertising Club of Toledo’s annual “AddyJam” last week. Amid live music, dancing and hors d'oeuvre noshing, the local ad club handed out awards honoring traditional and digital design work submitted by Toledo-area creatives.
